What happens when you press an engine fire switch?
Shuts off: FUEL HYDRAULICS ELECTRICS PNEUMATICS ARMS BOTTLE (armed light illuminates) FADEC commands engine shut down.
What is the heart of the fire detection and extinguishing system?
FIREX-CU
What type of fire detection system do the engines and APU have?
DUAL LOOP
If both loops are operative then both must detect fire. If one of the two loops fail, then the remaining loop can detect fire on its own.
What type of fire detection system does the main gear bay have?
SINGLE LOOP
Does the Cargo Bay have a fire detection system like the engines APU and wheel wells?
NO. the cargo bay only has a smoke detector.
**Fire must be fought with fire extinguisher.
If we are fighting an engine fire, why do we use the FIRE EXT 1 first?
to save the #2 for the APU.
** APU can only get fire protection from the #2 bottle.
What warnings can you expect during an engine fire?
- Master Warning Lights
- L/R ENGINE FIRE CAS msg.
- Red FIRE inside N1 indicaors.
- Fire Switch Light illuminates
- Aural “ENGINE FIRE”
Why do we NOT perform the FIRE DET test on the SYSTEMS TEST panel during the cockpit preparation flow?
The engine, APU and MLG bay fire protection systems are CONTINUOUSLY monitored by the fire detection and extinguishing (FIREX) system, and no preflight testing is required. (FCOM 2, chapter 9)
What 3 White (status) CAS messages will appear after an ENG FIRE switch light is pressed?
L (R) ENG FUEL SOV CLOSED
L (R) HYD SOV CLOSED
L (R) ENG SHUTDOWN
