Both Clockwise
Engine Features
an integrated reduction gear driving constant speed propellers with pitch feathering devices.
Engine Certification Basis
FAR 33, Amendment 15
Does the 912 S3 have magnetos?
No
How many spark plugs per cylinder on the 912 S3? Total?
2 per cylinder
8 total
How many carburetors does the 912 S3 have?
Two per engine - increases power by increasing airflow
How is the ignition system described?
Electric: Dual Capacitor Discharge Ignition System (DCDI)
What does the internal generator do?
Operates similarly to a magneto to power the ignition system. Generator flywheel geared to the engine crankshaft to spin magnets and induce electromagnetic currents to charge charging coils.
Where does current go after the charging coils (Leaving the internal generator)?
Charging coils -> Electric modules -> Trigger Coils (For discharging buildup to engine using timing) -> Dual ignition coils (increases current) -> Spark wires -> Spark plugs
How does the starter work?
Electrically, spins idler gear on crankshaft during startup then disconnects
