Q

Components of the liquid cooling system?

A
  • Expansion Tank (1)
  • Pressure Cap (On Expansion Tank) with relief valve and return valve (3)
  • Radiator (2)
  • Overflow Bottle (4)
  • Engine Driven Water Pump (forces water from radiator to the cyl heads)

Q

How does coolant overflow work?

A

At temperature rise and expansion of the coolant, the pressure relief valve opens and the coolant will flow via a hose at atmospheric pressure to the transparent overflow bottle

Q

How does coolant reenter the circuit?

A

Once it is cooled, it is sucked back through the return valve to the radiator.

Q

Where should coolant level be?

A

2/3 if the expansion tank, between min and max level (for first flight of the day)

Q

How does coolant return from the overflow bottle

A

As coolant cools in the expansion tank and overflow bottle, vacuum pressure sucks it back into the circuit.

Q

Why is the expansion tank on the top of the engine?

A

Since the radiator is placed below the engine, all coolant expansion occurs in the expansion tank, hence the need for an overflow bottle
