POWERPLANT Flashcards
How are the FADECs powered?
The system has its own alternator making it independent of the aircraft electrical system. The alternator comes online above 10% N2
If the alternator fails the FADEC automatically switches to aircraft electrical power.
If the FADEC detects a fault during an automatic start, what crew intervention will be required?
None. The FADEC will discontinue the start, dry crank to clear the fuel from the engine, and attempt a restart (if warranted) automatically.
How many igniters fire during an automatic ground start sequence?
One, with the other serving as a backup.
The FADEC automatically alternates A and B in each subsequent start.
How many igniters fire during a manual or in-flight start?
Two, A and B
On the ground, how can the A/THR be armed?
Provided at least one FD is on, advancing the thrust levers to TOGA or FLEX (as appropriate) the A/THR will be armed.
What is the active range of the
A/THR?
Just above idle to the CL detent with 2 engines
Just above idle to the MCT detent with only 1 engine
What determines the maximum thrust the A/THR system will be able to command?
Thrust Lever Angle
What are 3 ways to disconnect
A/THR?
- the A/THR pb
- the instinctive disconnect buttons
- Thrust levers idle
What is the proper way to disconnect
A/THR?
First match the thrust lever angle to the current EPR, then push the instinctive disconnect buttons.
How would A/THR be disconnected for the remainder of the flight?
Press and hold the instinctive disconnect buttons for 15 seconds.
The A/THR cannot be re-engaged once this is done.
ALPHA FLOOR will be lost as well.
What happens during
ALPHA FLOOR?
Thrust - TOGA
FMA - A FLOOR
When does the aircraft leave ALPHA FLOOR, and what changes on the FMA?
Upon reaching a lower angle of attack.
The FMA changes to TOGA LK
When will ALPHA FLOOR activate?
high AOA
When would Thrust Lock occur?
Thrust levers in the CL detent and the A/THR pb on the FCU pressed, or if the A/THR disconnect due to a failure.
How do you get out of THR LK?
Move the thrust levers out of the
CL detent
