Posterior Abdominal Wall Flashcards
what covers the posterior abdominal wall?
andoabdominal fascia which lies btwn the parietal peritoneum and the muscles
continuous with transversalis fascia
what covers the psoas major muscle?
psoas fascia
attached medially to lumbar vertebrae and pelvic brim
What are the attachments of the psoas fascia?
superiorly forms medial arcuate ligament
fuses laterally with quadratus lumborum + thoracolumbar fascias
pasteriorly continuous with the iliac fascia
What is the thorocolumbar fascia attached to and what are its layers?
the vertebral column medially where it has posterior, middle + anterior layers with muscles in btwn
thick towards lumbar, thin towards thoracic bones
like linea alba but with more support
what are the attachments of the posterior and middle layers of the thorocolumbar fascia?
laterally to internal oblique + transversus abdominis
superiorly to latissimus dorsi
what is the attachment of the anterior thorocolumbar layer?
transverse process of the lumbar vertebrae, iliac crest, 12th rib
what are the 3 paired muscles of the posterior abdominal wall?
- psoas major (inferolaterally)
- iliacus (lateral side of psoas major)
- quadratus lumborum (adjacent to transverse process of lumbar vertebrae)
