Classification of joints Flashcards
What is a pseudo joint?
2 muscles forming a joint
ex: serratus anterior + subscalpular
What is a winged scalpula?
when scalpula deattaches to ribs at subscalpulothoracic joint
cause: damaged thoracic nerve
What issues prevent joints from movement of joints?
dislocation, torn ligament, nerve damage
what are fibrous joints called?
what are they made of?
synarthroses
made of CT fibers
what is the range of movement for fibrous joints?
what does it depend on?
immovable, barely movable
depends on length of fibers attaching joint
what are the types of fibrous joint?
- suture: no movement i.e. skull
- syndesmosis: slight movement i.e. tibia-fibia
- gomphosis: no movement i.e. tooth in alveolar
What are sinovial joints called?
what are they made of?
diarthroses
articular cartilage with sinovial capsule
What is the range of movement for sinovial joints?
lots of movement
what is the shape of sinovial joints?
examples?
one bone is convex other is concave
ex: hip joint, knee joint
What is inside the sinovial joint capsule?
sinovial capsule + lubricating sinovial fluid
what is the cartilaginous joint called?
what are they joined by?
aphiarthrosis
joined by cartilage
what is the range of movement for cartilaginous joints?
limited movement
what are the types of cartilaginous joints?
what are examples?
Primary: joint by hyaline cartilage (temporary union, pubis symphisis)
Secondary: joint by fibrocartilage (slight movement for strength + shock absorption, IV discs)
what is a type of fibrous joint?
syndesmosis which united bones with fibrous tissue or ligaments
what are sinovial joints reinforced with?
accessory ligaments that are extrinsic or intrinsic
