CRITERIA of POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)
Must have exposure to a traumatic event before onset of behavioral manifestations.
MANIFESTATIONS of PTSD
PERSISTENT RECURRENT
Unwanted thoughts, Nightmares, flashbacks
Re-experiecing the trauma
you are awake but you believe that you are still in that event/situation
Flashbacks
You are easily startled and agitated
Arousal symptoms
decreased in emotion, and persistent negative thoughts and mood
Avoidance and Numbing
Anyone can experience manifestations but we can say that it is PTSD when;

PLASHBACKS
EXPOSURE TO A TRAUMATIC EVENT
The symptoms occurred within 1 month after an
accident/traumatic event
- Disappears without treatment.
- Normal reaction from traumatic event
ACUTE STRESS DISORDER (ASD)
EXPOSURE TO A TRAUMATIC EVENT
Within the 1st month there are no symptoms
- After 1 month or within a year after the
traumatic events is when the symptoms shows
PTSD
when manifestations shows within 6 months
Delayed onset PTSD
TREATMENT OF PTSD: PSYCHOTHERAPY
- Cognitive-behavioral Therapy
- Prolonged Exposure Therapy
TREATMENT OF PTSD: PSYCHOPARMACOLOGY
- Antidepressants
- Antiadrenergic Agents.
- Anti-anxiety
- Anti-hypertensive
NURSING DIAGNOSIS: PTSD
Post Trauma Syndrome: collective nursing diagnosis, collection of various nursing diagnosis. Includes other diagnosis from other disorders.
RELAXATION TECHNIQUES
- Deep breathing (square breathing)
- Inhale for 2 seconds → stop breathing for 2 seconds → exhale for 2 seconds → stop breathing for 2 seconds
PROGRESSIVE MUSCLE TENSING AND RELAXATION
- Tense and relax group of muscles.
- Ex. face gradual tense the muscle… then 1,2,3,4
gradual relax - Rationale: You will focus on the task. Therefore
makakalimutan mo yung anxiety.
GUIDED IMAGERY
Assist the patient in imagining a peaceful or relaxed scenario.
MEDICATIONS: ANXIOLYTICS
- Benzodiazepines
- Diazepam
- Lorazepam
- Non – benzo
- Buspirone
MEDICATIONS: ANTI-DEPRESSANTS
- SSRI
o Prozac
o Paxil
o Zoloft - TCA
MEDICATIONS: ANTI-HYPERTENSIVES
- Propranolol
- Clonidine
