Post Operative ACL Management Flashcards
Why are ACLR not performed immediately after injury?
Want a knee that is pain and effusion free and must have full ROM with efficient strength
What do you want your pre op ROM before surgery?
Full extension and 120° of flexion
Autografts
Using own tissue
Allograft
Using cadaver tissue
What are the pros of an autograft?
Faster incorporation and healing
Better outcomes in young active patients
What are the cons of autografts?
Donor site morbidity
Risk of fracture
What are pros of allografts?
Less acute pain
Better for revisions
What are the cons of allografts?
Greater decrease in structural properties
Slow rate of biological incorporation
Why is it not really a good thing that allografts are less painful?
Because patients could become active before it is healed and cause re injury
What is the main potential complication of patellar tendon autograft?
Higher incidence of Patellofemoral pain
How should your aggressiveness be in a hamstring autograft?
Less early on
What should be more aggressive early on allograft or autograft?
Autograft
What is a Cyclops lesion?
Arthofibrosis of intercondylar notch
Why is wall slide better than heel slide?
Allows effusion drain out and is a more passive intervention
What is the most efficient way to restore knee extension?
Control the effusion
