Post modern western city
* an urban form associated with changes in urban structure + architecture design, reflecting the changed social + economic conditions of the late 20th century is some western cities
* concept is based on experiences of small American cities, not globally
Modernism
architecture was functional (use), buildings were designed for effective us (e.g. library, space)
Post-modernism
from an architecture stand point, no longer was a functional design a priority, originality, was important

architecture becomes an expression of art so buildings simulate heritage/ other famous buildings
Beautification
architecture is art, varied with decorative, ornomentation more common, linked to heritage of city
Fortification
security is a concern in PMWC’s so fortress landscapes are common
Information
dominated by service + knowledge economies- high employment in these sectors + global economies
Gentrification
young, wealthy individuals regenerate a declining city
Decentralisation
concept of PMWC is based on experiences of small American cities, not globally
