Report Writing
what is a report?
a report is a formal/ official/ statement/ written description/ information against a person/account given or opinion formally expressed for/after investigation.
where are report taken/ made?
- they are made in the charge room or elsewhere by an aggrevated person.
- an account, usually written of some activities or occurrence of which person furnishing the report has knowledge.
what are the elements of a report?
- introduction
- body/discussion
- conclusion/summary
- recommendation
what does the introduction of report writing consist of?
- state the problem and provide the synopsis of the report for the reader.
- what the report is about
- state your main points
what does the body/discussion of a report entail?
- all the specifics and facts
- guide the reader as they may know little or
nothing about the issue. - use heading and subheading where
necessary
what does the conclusion or summary of a report entails?
the conclusion or summary is intended to prevent the reader from getting lost in the detials of the body.
what does the reccommendation entail?
recommendations are optional in some reports- it should be based on the nature of the report and the objectives of the writer and the intended reader.
purposes of a report?
are written on behalf of the writer, or requested/ ordered by a senior officer.
