ACTIONS TO TAKE: POISON
A
- Make sure the scene is safe from the poison. If needed, move person out of the scene (gasses,
- Look for posted signs warning people that poisons are nearby.
- Look for any spilled or leaking containers.
- If the scene seems unsafe, do not approach; tell everyone to move away. Stay out of the scene if you see multiple people who may have been poisoned.
- Phone 911 and get the 1st aid kit and AED.

- Move the person to a different area to avoid inhalation for both you and the injured person.

POISON ON SKIN
A
- Put on gloves.
- Wash poison from skin and clothing by helping the person to a faucet, safety shower, or eye wash station.
- Remove clothing and jewelry from any part touched by the poison.
- Use a gloved hand or a piece of cloth to brush off any dry powder or solid substance from the person’s skin.
- Run lots of water over the affected area until advanced medical care arrives.

POISON IN EYE
A
- Ask the person to blink as much as possible while rinsing the eyes.
- If only one eye is affected make sure the eye with the poison in it, is the lower eyes so that you don’t rinse the poison into the unaffected eye.
- Provide CPR if the person becomes unresponsive and isn’t breathing normally or is only gasping.
- Use a pocket mask or face shield to provide breaths. This is especially important if the poison has contaminated the person’s lips or mouth.

- Dangerous and highly addictive chemical
- Can cause an increase in blood pressure and heart rate
- Narrowing of the arteries or vessels
- Contribute to the hardening of the arterial walls, which may lead to a heart attack
- Can stay in your body for 6 to 8 hours
- Has side effects of withdrawal

- Cigarillos
- Electronic cigarettes or E cigarettes (used for vaping and jeweling)
- Hookah (type of water pipe)
- Smokeless tobacco (snuff, chew, dissolvable tobacco)
Many falsely believe these new products are safe. They can contain higher concentrations of addictive nicotine than traditional cigarettes. Tobacco products contain many other dangerous toxins in addition to nicotine.
