-If there is a razor, quickly shave the areas the pads need to be placed.
-If no razor, but two sets of pads, apply the pads and press firmly to see if the pads will stick to the skin. If not, rip the pads off forcefully to remove the hair and apply the second set of pads.

A

Move the person out of the water. The AED CAN be used if the person is lying in a small puddle or snow.

A

Wipe the chest before applying the AED pads; it doesn’t have to be completely dry.

A

No, avoid putting the pad directly over the implant.

What should you do if an AED needs to be placed where a medicine patch is?

A

Don’t place the pad directly over a medicine patch. Take the patch off and quickly wipe the spot before you put the AED pad on. Avoid getting medicine from the patch on your own skin.

What are the steps of using an AED when you come upon someone in an emergency situation ?

A
  1. Make sure the scene is safe.
  2. Tap and shout to see if the person is responsive.
  3. If the person is unresponsive, shout for help.
  4. Ask someone to phone 911 and get an AED.
  5. Scan the chest for 5-10 seconds, checking for breathing.
  6. If the person is not breathing normally or is only gasping, perform CPR giving chest compressions
  7. make sure they’re on a firm, flat surface.
  8. Quickly move bulky clothes out of the way, if an AED becomes available.
  9. Tilt the head back and lift the chin to open the airway.
  10. Give two breaths with a mask. Don’t interrupt compressions for more than ten seconds.
  11. Give another set of 30 compressions
  12. Tilt the head back and lift the chin.
  13. Give two breaths
  14. Once the AED arrives, use it immediately.
  15. Turn on the AED by pushing the ON button or opening the lid.
  16. Attatch the pads to the persons bare chest.
  17. Plug in the pads connector
  18. Make sure no one is touching the person
  19. Press the shock button if the AED instructs you
  20. Immediately resume CPR, starting with compressions
