PNF Outline Flashcards
a rhythmic motion performed through the desired range, starting with passive motion and progressing to active resisted movement.
Rhythmic initiation
stretch reflex elicited from muscles under tension of elongation
Repeated Stretch
placing a patient at the end position of a pattern, asking for a hold and then relax (therapist passively moves away from end position); finish with an active return back to end position.
Replication
What are the 3 neuromuscular techniques?
Rhythmic initiation
Repeated Stretch
Replication
concentric, eccentric and stabilizing contractions to a group of muscles without relaxation
Combination of istotonics
active motion changing from one direction to the opposite without pause or relaxation
Reversals
2 strengthening techniques
Combo of isotonics
Reversals
resisted contraction of the restricting muscles followed by relaxation and movement into the increased range
H/W & C/R
concentric contraction of the agonist with an end range hold (several seconds)
Agonist contraction
take target (range limited) muscle to end range, isometrically contract target muscle, follow with a relaxation; and *finish with a concentric contraction of the muscle opposite the range limited muscle
Hold relax with agonist contract
Stretch techniques
Hold reland and agonist contraction
is used to facilitate a smooth, coordinated contraction. Resistance must be appropriate. It
will also change with the arc of movement.
Resistance
Spread of the response to stimulation
Irradiation
Give pt info about direction of mvmt.
Manual contact
Therapist in line with desired motion to provide guidance control
