Related to inflammation

Lung cancer

Pneumonia

A

Congestive cardiac fluid

Hypoalbuminaemia

Presentation of pleural effusion?

A

Shortness of breath
Dullness to percussion over effusion
reduced breath sounds
Tracheal deviation away from effusion.

Investigations of pleural effusion?

A

Chest xray will show:
- Blunting of catastrophic angle
- Fluid in lung fissures
- Large effusion will have meniscus
- Tracheal and mediastinal deviation
