Bronchiectasis Flashcards
1
Q
Pathophysiology of bronchiectasis?
A
Permanent dilation of bronchiole due to chronic inflammation.
Due to inflammation increased mucus forms mucus plug causing obstructive lung disease as air cant flow through normally.
The mucus stays there due to cillary dyskinesia, (where the cilia dont move. This can lead to chronic inflammation because bacteria stays in bronchioles.
What can cause chronic inflammation:
- Airway obstruction
- Cystic fibrosis
- Cilary dyskinesia
