A
- Overuse injury affecting the heel and MLA
- More common in pes planus (tensile load),and pes cavus (strain on heel)

Signs and Symptoms
A
- insidious onset
- Pain typically medial tuberosity of calcaneus
- first step pain, get better throughout the day
- over time pain can increase and remain whenever WB, due hypersensitivity to pain

Diagnosis
A
- Intrinsic muscle feel tight
- Palpation of medial aspect of heel
- Ultrasound helpful
- Lab test doesn’t show inflammation

DDX
A
- Tib post tedinopathy
- Plantar fibroma
- Fat pad atrophy

Treatment
A
- Stretching plantar fascia, gastroc and soleus
- Taping, low dye, inversion and plantar heel
- massage
- avoid flat shoes and barefoot walking
- intrinsic foot exercises
- decrease activity levels
- orthotics to offload and reduce stress on plantar fascia

What is a plantar fibroma?

- Fibrous knot/nodule in the arch of the foot
- embedded within the plantar fascia
