Plant unit test Flashcards
What is the organization of a plant from largest to smallest?
Plant, leaf, stoma, chloroplast, thylakoid
What are the reactants and products of photosynthesis?
Reactant: Sun, CO2, H2O
Product: O2 and glucose
What are the reactants and products of cellular respiration?
Reactants: Glucose and O2
Products: ATP, CO2, H2O
What is the chemical formula for glucose?
C6H12O6
What is the chemical formula for photosynthesis?
6 CO2 +6 H2O + energy(light) = C6H12O6 +6O 2
6 carbon dioxide + 6 water + light = glucose + oxygen
What is the chemical formula for cellular respiration?
C6H12O6 + 6 O2 = 6CO2 + 6 H2O + energy (ATP)
Glucose + 6 oxygen= 6 water + 6 carbon dioxide + ATP energy
Light vs Dark C. Resp.
Light: Traps energy to produce ATP and NADPH (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate)
Dark: Utilizes ATP energy and NADPH energy to produce glucose.
What are the factors that affect C. Resp. ?
- Temp: lower temps slow down C resp Higher temps speed up C resp.
- O2 availability: Aerobic is faster than anaerobic
- PH- Too high denatures the enzyme
What does the chloroplast do?
- ABsorbs light energy
- Converts light energy into chemical energy through the process of photosynthesis
- Produces ATP energy
What is the relationship between C. Resp. and photosynthesis?
Both are necessary for the plant to maintain homeostasis.
- photosynthesis converts CO2 and H2O into Oxygen and glucose. Removes CO2 from the atmosphere
- C Resp. uses oxygen to release energy from food. Puts CO2 back.
Anaerobic Resp. ?
- Lacks oxygen
- Breaks down sugars
- generate ATP energy
- Occurs in cytoplasm
- Also called glycolysis
Aerobic Resp. ?
- Has oxygen
- Breaks down sugars
- Generates ATP energy
- Occurs in mitochondria or cytoplasm in prokaryotes.
Fermentation?
- Anaerobic
- Energy is released from glucose
- occurs in yeast and bacteria
- Products are ethanol and CO2
