Q

What is the chemical formula for photosynthesis?

A

6 CO2 +6 H2O + energy(light) = C6H12O6 +6O 2
6 carbon dioxide + 6 water + light = glucose + oxygen

Q

What is the chemical formula for cellular respiration?

A

C6H12O6 + 6 O2 = 6CO2 + 6 H2O + energy (ATP)
Glucose + 6 oxygen= 6 water + 6 carbon dioxide + ATP energy

Q

Light vs Dark C. Resp.

A

Light: Traps energy to produce ATP and NADPH (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate)

Dark: Utilizes ATP energy and NADPH energy to produce glucose.

Q

What are the factors that affect C. Resp. ?

A
  • Temp: lower temps slow down C resp Higher temps speed up C resp.
  • O2 availability: Aerobic is faster than anaerobic
  • PH- Too high denatures the enzyme

Q

What does the chloroplast do?

A
  • ABsorbs light energy
  • Converts light energy into chemical energy through the process of photosynthesis
  • Produces ATP energy

Q

What is the relationship between C. Resp. and photosynthesis?

A

Both are necessary for the plant to maintain homeostasis.
- photosynthesis converts CO2 and H2O into Oxygen and glucose. Removes CO2 from the atmosphere
- C Resp. uses oxygen to release energy from food. Puts CO2 back.
