Plant Organeel Flashcards
Cell wall
What kind if layer is this
It is a non living layer
Waht do the large spaces in cell make it
large spaces in the cell wall make it porous/permeable
It has pores which allows wat
• has pores allowing cytoplasmic threads, (plasmodesmata),
to connect the cytoplasm of neighbouring cells
When mature it jas how many layers
Name thise layers
It has 3 layers when mature
> middle lamella (pectin)
primary cell wall (cellulose)
secondary cell wall (cellulose and lignin)
What is the function of cell wall
• rigid and gives shape to plant cells
• protects cell contents and prevents the plant cell from
bursting
• enables water and dissolved substances to pass freely
through it.
Name the 3 plastids
Chloroplast
Chromoplast
Leucoplast
What does chloroplast contain
They contain the green pigment chlorophyll which absorbs sunlight (radiant energy) during photosynthesis:
CO2+ H2O + sunlight -> glucose + O2
What are chromoplast
They are plastids that contain contain red, orange and yellow pigments.
They give colour to flowers and fruits
What are leucoplast
They are colourless plastids found mainly in cells of roots, tubers such as
Potatoes, corms and some fruits.
They store startch
What is the cytosol
• site of most chemical reactions
• transports minerals, dissolved nutrients and
gases by diffusion
it is the fluid in which organelles are found
What does the cytosol consist of
consists of 90% water with dissolved substances like
> inorganic
“ gases (02, CO2)
› minerals (sodium, magnesium…)
› organic › carbohydrates (glucose) › proteins (enzymes) › fats › vitamins
