pipeline system Flashcards
What is the purpose of the pipeline system?
- carry medical gas from bulk system to point of administration
Is there regulation around the use of it?
yes, its government regulated
Which standard is applied?
CSA standard Z305.1 (only standard that is legislated)
What are the components of the pipeline?
- Seamless copper/brass
- fittings are copper, brass, bronze
Where does the main line come from?
- from the bulk system
Where does the main riser come from?
- the ascending pipeline that runs from bottom to the top
Where does the lateral line come from?
- goes to the patient room on the floor from the main riser
Where does the riser and drop come from
- come from the lateral line
Riser: from ground up
Drop: Goes down from ceiling
What is the wall outlet located?
the end of the pipeline
–>terminal unit
What are the safety systems in pipelines?
1) zone valves
2) pressure sensing device
3) pressure warning devices
- –Alarm goes off if there is decrease or increase in pressure (45- 50 psi)
What does the initial testing compose of?
1) Lines are filled with dry nitrogen to 1.5 times (75 psi)
- pressure is checked several hours to determine whether it is maintained or not
- > checking leakage
2) purge pipeline and cover all the wall outlets with white cloth to ensure no discoloration –> filter is working
3) 1 set of pipelines are test at a time to ensure no cross-connection (O2, C/A, N2O, N2, vaccum)
What is testing after wall are closed composed of?
System verification
- test are repeated
- alarm are tested
- purge gas outlet and analyze its content or purity
What is the purpose of wall outlets(terminal unit, station outlet)? How?
- locate at the end of a pipeline, used to dispense gas
- a 1 way valve that allows gas to flow when equipment is connected
e. g. flowmeters , high pressure hoses that lead to ventilators
What are the 2 components of an outlet?
- Wall plate
2. Keyed outlet
What is included in the wall plate?
1) ID, warnings
2) protection for valves
3) locking mechanism or release
- -> each type of flowmeter has unique thread that connect to the outlet that associated with it
