A
a small scale version of an investigation that takes place before the real investigation is conducted. researcher can make changes if necessary.

aims of piloting
A
- involves a handful of participants to road test the procedure to check the investigation runs smoothly
- when using questionnaires or interviews it is helpful to try out questions in advance to make it not ambiguous
- in observational studies, pilot studies provide ways to check coding system before the real investigation ( allows researcher to identify any problems)
