BPS 4 principles

informed consent
making participants aware of the aims of the research, the procedure and their rights (right to withdraw) and what the data will be used for
deception
misleading or withholding info from participants at any stage of the investigation
protection from harm
participants should not be placed at any more risk than they would in their normal lives and should be protected from physical and psychological harm.

participants have the right to control information about themselves
confidentiality
our right to have any data protected (data protection act)

ethical guidelines that ensure participants are treated with respect and consideration in each phase of research
dealing with informed consent
participants are issued with a consent letter with information that might affect their decision to take part
dealing with deception
at the end of the study, participants should be fully debriefed and have the right to withdraw their data

counselling is offered to participants who are stressed or embarrassed

researcher refers to participants in terms of initials or numbers (participant 1,2)
