Physio Flashcards
Fibers from the left temporal field and the right nasal field ascend together in what?
right optic TRACT; remember the right nasal field is on the temporal inside of the eyeball. lesion here==>homonymous Contralateral hemianopia
preganglionic sympathetic fibers synapse one chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla at what type of autonomic receptor?
nicotinic
in the visual cortex, complex cells respond to what?
moving bars or edges with correct orientation
in the visual cortex, simple cells respond to what?
stationary bars
in the visual cortex, hypercomplex cells respond to what?
lines, curves, and angles
The stretch reflex is a monosynaptic response to stretching of a muscle; what does it produce?
contraction and then shortening of the muscle that was originally stretched, aka the homonymous muscle.
What is a feature of the SNS, but NOT the PNS?
in the SNS, preganglionic neurons originate in the thoracolumbar spinal cord (T1-L3); SNS also has SHORT PREGANG neurons.
what is the same about the preganglionic neurons in both the PNS and SNS?
in both the PNS and the SNS, preganglionic neurons release ACh; also, in both, POSTganglion neurons synapse in effector organs.
Which part of the basilar membrane of the organ of corti is narrow and stiff and activated by high freq. sounds?
Base of basilar membrane. (the apex is opposite)
What does hexamethonium do?
nicotinic blocker that acts only at ganglionic nicotinic receptors and has NO actions at the NMJ. *just remember that nicotinic receptors at the NMJ and the ganglia are similar, BUT NOT the same!
