A
physical activity that is usually planned and performed to improve or maintain physical condition
- outlet for fight-flight responses, e.g. uses up excess stress hormones
- focus thoughts and feelings away from stressor
- reduce risk of stress-related diseases, e.g. hypertension, cardiovascular heart disease, digestive disorders.
- enhance psychological health and overall sense of wellbeing.

A
Availability of help from others when needed, e.g. family, friends, peers, doctor, online support group, phone helpline.
- appraisal support, e.g. assist understanding of stressor and effects
- tangible assistance, e.g. material support (money), help with daily chores) to offset stressor effects
- information support, e.g. specific advice, resources.
