A behaviour that occurs spontaneously as the learner operates or acts on its environment. It is not a reaction elicited by a specific stimulus in the environment.

Operant conditioning
A
a form of learning in which the behaviours of the learner are strengthened or weakened in accordance with their consequences, as the learner operates on their environment. Behaviours followed by a pleasant stimulus are strengthened, while behaviours followed by an aversive of unpleasant stimulus are weakened.
