Trial and error learning
A
A form of learning in which numerous attempts (trials) are made in order to solve a problem until all of the unsuccessful behaviours (errors) are eliminated from the repertoire and the problem is solved.

The law of effect
A
A principle proposed by Thorndike which states that a behaviour followed by a satisfying or pleasant consequence becomes strengthened over time, whereas behaviour that is followed by annoying or unpleasant consequences becomes weakened over time.
