Graduated Exposure
An application of classical conditioning where the learner is exposed to a series of situations or stimuli that invoke feelings of anxiety in order of least distressing to most distressing, in order to reduce or eliminate the anxiety at each stage.
Flooding
An application of classical conditioning where the learner confronts the most distressing aspect of a phobia (by either imaging it or being physically exposed to it) until the distress is eliminated.
Aversion Therapy
An application of classical conditioning used to eliminate undesirable behaviours by pairing a stimulus that leads to a bad habit with an undesirable stimulus that leads to the learner avoiding the bad habit in the future.
