Q

what are the stages of light reactions?

A

water is split providing h+ ions and o2 exits leaf.
light energy which is absorbed by pigments excites electrons and h from water moving them up to next energy level and to acceptor nadp+
light reactions use solar energy to reduce nadp to nadph
also generates atp using chemioosmosis to add phosphate to adp in phosphorylation process

Q

what are the stages of the calvin cycle?

A

stage 1 : carbon fixation
stage 2: reduction
stage 3: regeneration of co2 acceptor (rubp)

12
Q

explain stages of calvin cycle?

A

phase 1: incorporated co2 form air by fixing it to rubp
rubisco is the enzyme which catlyses this reaction
this forms two 3 phosphoglycerates
phase 2: each 3 phosphoglycerate recieves a phosphate from atp and a pair of electrons nadph giving g3p, a sugar. for everythree co2 = 6 g3p molecules
phase 3: sugar is an output and 3 atp used to recycle left over g3p back into rubp
