Photosynthesis Flashcards
Process of photosynthesis
Plants trapping energy from light, which is transferred into molecules of sugar (glucose)
Word equation for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide+water -> glucose+oxygen
What kind of reaction is photosynthesis
Endothermic
Where in a plant cell does photosynthesis occur
In chloroplasts, which have chlorophyll that traps the energy from sunlight
Starch
a polymer of linked glucose molecules
What is starch used for
It stays in the chloroplasts until photosynthesis stops. It is then broken down into simpler substances which are move into the cytoplasm to produce sucrose
How have leaves adapted for photosynthesis
Broad and flat. The top layer is filled with palisade cells which are filled with chloroplasts. This helps the plant trap more sunlight
Stomata
small pores in the leaf which allow carbon dioxide to diffuse into the leaf.
How can a reduced concentration of air molecules affect a plant
It lowers the rate of photosynthesis
How can an increase in light intensity or temperature affect a plant
It increases the rate of photosynthesis
