Pharmocokinetics/Toxicodynamics Flashcards
What are the target sites?
1) Membrane receptors
2) Intracellular receptors
3) Enzymes
4) Transporters
what are the 2 types of membrane receptors?
1) iontropic receptors
2) metabotropic receptors
what are 2 types of effects on receptors?
1) Anagonist
2) Agonist
What are the 3 types of agonist?
Additive
Potentiating
Synergistic
what type of toxin effect is additive?
An expected response
What type of toxin effect is potentiating?
Exaggerated response because of the second toxin/drug
what influence the effects of toxins?
Affinity
Body composition(sex and age)
Selectivity of the targets sites
Dose
What does T50 stand for?
A dose that is toxic to 50% of the population that was tested
What L50 stand for ?
Lethal dose for 50% of the population
What is E50 stand for?
Effective dose to 50% of the population that was tested
What is the theraputic index?
A ratio that compares the blood concentration at which a drug becomes toxic and the concentration at which the drug is effective. The larger the therapeutic index (TI), the safer the drug is
The therapeutic index tells how safe a drug in comparison with another drug.
How do you calculate the therapeutic index ?
T50/E50
