Q

What does NO do with intracellular receptors?

A

It binds to soluble guanylyl cyclase and generates cGMP as as 2nd messenger which regulates cell activity.

Q

What are the 4 types of plasma membrane receptors and their functions?

A

Ion channels - Ionotropic receptors -> Fast EPSPs/IPSPs
Intrinsic enzyme activity - receptor tyrosine kinases -> proliferation or differentiation
JAK kinases - -> protein synthesis
G-proteins - Biggest group with several sub families.

Q

Define G-proteins.

A

Made up of 3 subunits and when activated the alpha g-protein subunit goes and regulates activity. It is one big amino acid chain with 7 hydrophobic loops.

Q

Name 3 G-Protein Coupled Receptors

A

Adenylyl Cyclase - activates/inhibits PKA
Phospholipase C - produces diacylglycerol
Ion channels - Evoke slow EPSPs/IPSPs
