Q

explain phagocytosis

A
  • phagocyte is attracted to pathogen by chemotaxis and changes shape around it
  • recognition and attachment
  • pathogen is engulfed (its now a phagosome)
  • lysosome and phagosome fuse together to form phagolysosome
  • hydrolytic enzymes in lysosome act on pathogen and break it down
  • pathogen is digested and waste products leave cell via exocytosis (or an APC is produced)
