the process in which prokaryotic cells divide in order to produce daughter cells.

- circular DNA and plasmids replicate
- cell elongates and each copy of DNA goes to each end of cell.
- cytoplasm divides to produce two daughter cells - each with a single copy of the circular DNA and variable copies of plasmids.
