Pesticide Resistance Flashcards
When does cross resistance occur?
When resistance to one insecticide confers resistanceto another insecticide, even where the insect has not been exposed to the latter product.
Why is it possible for insects to become resistant to pesticides?
Because pest insect populations are usually large in size and they breed quickly, there is always a risk that insecticide resistance may evolve, especially when insecticides are misused or over-used.
What do we need to keep in mind when talking about pesticides and insecticides?
in resistance, pre-existing mechanisms are selected by insecticide use; this drives the evolution of resistant forms. Individuals are born resistant. Immunity does not develop.
