Lobesia Botrana
How many larval stages for Lobesia Botrana?
5
Describe the pupa of lobesia botrana
yellowish brown to dark brown
Describe the distribution of lobesia botrana
widely distributed in central and southern Europe, North Africa, Minor Asia. An important pest in warm dry regions
How many generations in one year
3
Discuss the difference between the First generation and the second/third
The adults emerge in spring (April) and are mainly active at twilight. The first generation eggs are laid mainly on flower buds (they hatch after 7-11 days. The second and third generation are laid on grapes and hatch after about 4-5 days
Damage and threshold of first gen
They destroy flower buds, however the damage is often unimportant. There is usually no loss due to fruit set and berry weight gain. Up to 30% of damaged flowers is tolerable
Damage and threshold of second/third gen
These damages can cause yield losses. Usually 10-30% for early varieties and 40-50% for late varieties
What is the threshold for table grapes?
2-3% of berry clusters
What is the relationship between lobesia botrana and botrytis?
Lobesia botrana is more attracted to grapes infected by botrytis and the larvae have often been seen eating the fungi
Does a mutualism between Lobesia botrana and Botrytis cinerea occur?
Yes, mainly because of sterols produced by the fungus
How to best monitor Lobesia botrana
Through the use of delta or winged traps
How can we best control lobesia botrana?
Behavior control via mating disruption
