What is personality?
The unique psychological make-up of a person
What is the equation which links to detecting behaviour patterns?
Behaviour = function of (personality x environment)
B = f(P x E)
What is the trait theory?
A theory which indicates an individual is born with Innate characteristics which are stable, consistent and enduring and remain the same in different situations.
What is a positive of the trait theory?
It can be used to predict behaviour - in sporting situations you can expect certain behaviours to be triggered
What is an extrovert’s usual personality?
Loud and opinionated, aggressive responses to stimuli but also bright and bubbly
What is an introvert’s usual personality?
Quiet, reserved, likes personal space doesn’t express all emotions
What is the social learning approach?
OBSERVE - IDENTIFY - REINFORCE - COPY
- We learn behaviours from significant figures we see daily or people we hold to high self-esteem e.g friends and family.
- Behaviour is more likely to be reinforced if we see similarity between us and the person.
What is the interactionist perspective?
A combination or trait theory and social learning to determine how behaviour can be influenced by genetic and environmental influences which better helps predicting behaviour in specific situations.
What is the Hollander Approach to the interactionist perspective?
The specific responses can be split into three categories:
- The core beliefs
- Typical responses
- Role-related behaviour
What are the core beliefs of the performer?
Solid beliefs which are unlikely to change as they are stable
