What personality types fall into cluster B?
BAD- antisocial, borderline (emotionally unstable), histrionic, narcissistic

SAD-Avoidant, dependent, obsessive-compulsive (anankastic)
Describe someone with a paranoid personality disorder?
Pervasive distrust of others, including friends and partner. Strong sense of self-importance and personal rights and is overly sensitive to setbacks and rebuffs, easily feels shame and humiliation and persistently bears grudges. Main ego defence mechanism is projection (the attributes of ones unacceptable ideas to others)
Describe someone with a schizoid personality disorder?
These are usually detached and aloof and prone to introspection and fantasy. No desire for social or sexual relationships, indifferent to others and to social norms and conventions with a FLATTENED affectivity. It may sometimes look like chronic schizophrenia but no evidence to suggest relation.
Describe someone with schizotypal personality disorder
Also called latent schizophrenia, characterised by eccentric behaviour and anomalies of thinking and affect similar to those seen with schizophrenia. Anomalies of thinking may include off beliefs or magical thinking, suspiciousness and ideas (BUT NOT DELUSIONS) of reference, obsessive ruminations and unusual perceptual experiences. Inappropriate or constricted affect and a reduced capacity for close relationships. This disorder runs chronic course and occasionally progresses to schizophrenia.
Describe someone with a dissocial personality disorder?
Characterised by a callous unconcern for the feelings of others. The person disregards, social rules and obligations, is irritable and aggressive, acts impulsively, lacks guilt and fails to learn from experience. Significantly more common in males. MURDERERS
Describe an emotionally unstable/borderline personality disorder?
Lacks a sense of self and has chronic feel ins of emptiness and fears abandonment. Pattern of intense but unstable relationships, affective instability, outbursts of anger and violence (especially in response to criticism) and impulsive behaviour. THIS IS THE 20 SUICIDE ATTEMPT PERSON IN A&E. Defence mechanism are splitting, projection, and projective identification.
Describe a histrionic personality disorder?
Self-centred, attention-seeking, craving excitement and often seeming to be ‘playing a part’. Undue attention is paid to physical appearance and behaviour is manipulative and inappropriately seductive. This person is easily influenced by those in a position of authority.
Describe a narcissistic personality disorder?
Grandiose sense of self-importane, a sense of entitlement. Envious of others and expects them to be the same of him. He lacks empathy and readily exploits others to achieve his goals. Ego defence mechanisms used: denial, distortion and projection.
Describe an anankastic personality disorder?
Excessive preoccupation with details, rules, lists, order and organisation or schedules. Perfectionism that prevents a task from being completed and devotion to work and productivity at the expense of leisure and relationships (Drs) The person is doubting and cautious, rigid, controlling, humourless, misery. Risk of suicide is not increased!
Describe an anxious-avoidant personality disorder?
Tense because he believes he is socially inept, unappealing or inferior and fears that he might be embarrassed, criticised of rejected. Avoids meeting people unless certain of being liked.
What is a dependent personality disorder?
Lack of self-confidence and excessive need to be taken care of. Person needs excessive help to make everyday decision and needs important life decisions to be made for them. ANNA HAY
What is an ego-defence mechanism?
Psychodynamic theory- conflict between conscious and unconscious desires by preventing unacceptable thoughts from coming to conscious attention.
What are the differentials for a PD?
Affective disorders, substance misuse, psychotic disorder, anxiety disorder, OCD, learning disability, dementia and autism.
