General Personality Disorder

A
  • enduring pattern of behavior that is markedly deviated from culturally sanctioned behavior
  • manifest symptoms that are affective, cognitive, impulsive control, interpersonal (at least 2 of these areas)
  • very inflexible and pervasive, enduring
  • don’t need to have mood contingent
  • personality disorders don’t require an affect to go along with it
  • need to have perceived onset at or around adolescence or early adulthood

  • needs to occur at age 15 (conduct disorder) but cannot diagnose until 18

  • you feel drawn to them and the need to help them and support them
  • “shell of a person”, “no real personality”,”there is nothing behind it, feel like they are empty”
  • pervasive pattern of unstable interpersonal relationships, self image and affect marked by impulsivity and rapid changes in mood

A

Self-identity-ability to see oneself as separate and unique from others while maintaining good clear boundaries
Self-self direction- pursuit of coherent meaningful short and long term life goals, your ability to do things with purpose, make goals, be planful in the different things you’re trying to accomplish
Interpersonal-empathy-comprehension and appreciation of other people’s experience
Interpersonal-intimacy-desire to have closeness, ability to develop closeness to others

  2. Detachment-devoid of want or inability to form meaningful attachments with others
  3. Antagonism-constantly at odds with people
  4. Disinhibition-immediate self gratification, lack of consequences
  5. Psychoticism-ranges. Can have hallucinations. Something seems off about this person
