10 specific personality disorders grouped into 3 clusters according to symptoms (A, B, and C)
Diagnosis
A person must exhibit at least two of four core features:
◦Rigid, extreme, and distorted thinking patterns
◦Problematic emotional response patterns
◦Impulse control problems
◦Significant interpersonal problems
The four core features combine in different ways for each personality disorder
These features deviate from cultural norms and lead to distress and impairment
Not often diagnosed in children because they are still developing their personality traits.
Cluster A
Odd or eccentric behavior
Cluster B
dramatic and overly emotional behavior
Cluster C
anxious fearful thinking and behavior
Cluster A Disorders
Paranoid Personality Disorder: distrust and suspicion
Schizoid Personality Disorder: detached socially, oblivious to social cues
Schizotypal Personality Disorder: difficulty with relationships, social anxiety, distortions and eccentric behavior

social awkwardness, social withdrawal, distorted thinking
Cluster B Disorders
Borderline Personality Disorder: instability in relationships, outbursts, absolute thinking, bad coping
Narcissistic Personality Disorder: entitlement, superiority
Histrioninc Personality Disorder: craves being center of attention, shallow/insecure
Antisocial personality Disorder: aggressive, impulsive, violation of others

impulse control and emotional regulation, tendency toward dramatic and erratic behavior
Cluster C Disorders
Avoidant Personality Disorder: shyness
Dependent Personality Disorder: submissive and clingy
Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder : preoccupato with orderliness, rules, perfection
