What is a trait?

A
  • A trait is characteristics of a personality
  • Innate characteristics that were born with
  • They are stable so they don’t change
  • They are enduring to us
  • It allows behaviour to be predicted
  • It doesn’t take into account the influence of the environment or significant others

What is an extrovert?

A
  • They include characterises such as being outgoing, sociable and talkative, liveliness
  • They affiliate well with other people
  • They prefer team games with open skills and lots of unpredictability
  • They prefer sports which have simple motor skills, low concentration levels, fast-paced, team sports, high arousal levels and excitement
  • They need high arousal levels to perform
  • Coaches and teammates need to keep them excited about performing

  • They include characteristics such as isolation, shyness, reserved and independent
  • Prefers to be isolated from others/ likes being on their own
  • They prefer individual sports which require concentration, precision, self motivation, intricate skills, low arousal levels
  • They perform better at low arousal levels
  • Too much stimulation will cause them to be over aroused and they won’t perform well
