- Term which describes the unique characteristics of an individual which makes him/her act as they do

What is a trait?
A
- A trait is characteristics of a personality
- Innate characteristics that were born with
- They are stable so they don’t change
- They are enduring to us
- It allows behaviour to be predicted
- It doesn’t take into account the influence of the environment or significant others

What is Eysenks trait theory?
A
- Theory suggests an individuals personality is inherited from their parents
- They are innate characteristics that were born with
- They remain stable through our lifetime
- They are stable and enduring meaning behaviour can be predicted

What is an extrovert?
A
- They include characterises such as being outgoing, sociable and talkative, liveliness
- They affiliate well with other people
- They prefer team games with open skills and lots of unpredictability
- They prefer sports which have simple motor skills, low concentration levels, fast-paced, team sports, high arousal levels and excitement
- They need high arousal levels to perform
- Coaches and teammates need to keep them excited about performing

- Rugby
- Boxing

What is an introvert?
A
- They include characteristics such as isolation, shyness, reserved and independent
- Prefers to be isolated from others/ likes being on their own
- They prefer individual sports which require concentration, precision, self motivation, intricate skills, low arousal levels
- They perform better at low arousal levels
- Too much stimulation will cause them to be over aroused and they won’t perform well

What does neurotic mean?
A
- Displays extreme and unpredictable emotions (mood swings)
- Includes the fact that behaviour may change and so is unstable and irrational
- Moods are unreliable
- Experience high degrees of stress

- Displays predictable emotions in appropriate situations
- Moods are predictive
- Don’t experience much stress
