Peripheral nerves of the proximal UE Flashcards
Where does the axillary nerve originate?
Posterior cord of brachial plexus
Where does the axillary nerve exit to get to the deltoid and teres?
Quadrangular space
What does the axillary nerve supply with motor function?
Teres minor and deltoid
What does the axillary nerve supply with sensory function?
Lateral shoulder region and the “deltoid patch” of the skin in the lateral shoulder
Where does the musculoskeletal nerve originate?
The lateral cord of the brachial plexus (part of the classic M)
What does the musculoskeletal nerve pass through in order to get to other muscles of the arm?
the choracobrachialis
What muscles does the musculocutaneous nerve supply with motor function?
Corachobrachialis, Brachialis, Biceps brachii
After supplying the anterior arm muscles, the musculocutaneous nerve travels to the lateral forearm and is renamed what? What does it supply with sensory function?
Lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm, supplies skin sensation in the lateral forearm
Where does the radial nerve originate?
Posterior cord of the brachial plexus
Where does the radial nerve wrap around the humerus?
Posterior to humerus in radial (spiral) groove
What does the radial nerve descend along with?
The deep artery of the arm
Once it travels along the posterior humerus (radial groove) what does the radial artery enter?
The anterior forearm (crosses over anterior to elbow joint)
What does the radial nerve supply with motor function?
Triceps brachii
What does the radial nerve supply with sensory functin?
No sensory areas in proximal UE, continues to distal UE for sensation of the hand
Where does the median nerve originate?
Lateral and Medial cords (middle arch of classic M in brachial plexus)
