Q

What are the actions of the biceps brachii?

A

Flex the elbow and supinate the forearm (turning hand so palm is open and face-up)

Q

What is the bicipital aponeurosis of the biceps brachii?

A

A landmark of connective tissue at the end of the biceps belly that lands on the forearm
(also a location to determine where the brachial artery is descending to the forearm/split into radial and ulnar arteries)

Q

What is the transverse humeral ligament of the biceps brachii?

A

A landmark which keeps the long head of the biceps tendon in place (goes across the greater tuberosity to the lesser tuberosity)
-covers bicipital groove

Q

What is bicipital tendonitis?

A

Inflammation that occurs in the long head of the biceps tendon under the transverse humeral ligament
*causes very distinct pain in that specific region

Q

What is a proximal rupture of the biceps?

A

The long head of the biceps tendon ruptures
-the muscle belly usually held by this tendon will slump down and forms a ball/bump in the arm
*usually treated surgically
*if surgery is not an option, short head can somewhat compensate

Q

What is a distal rupture of the biceps?

A

A tear of the biceps tendon that occurs in the distal attachment of the biceps brachii

16
Q

What action is the coracobrachialis responsible for?

A

Flexion and adduction of the shoulder

17
Q

What are the attachments of the brachialis?

A

Attaches from the mid humerus to the ulnar bone

18
Q

What is the innervation of the brachialis?

A

Musculocutaneous nerve (along with all other anterior compartment muscles)

19
Q

What action is the brachialis responsible for?

A

Flexes the elbow with forearm in any position (supinate, pronate, neutral, etc.)

20
Q

What is the attachment point for the long head of the triceps?

A

the infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula (at the bottom of the glenoid fossa)

21
Q

What is the attachment point for the lateral head of the triceps?

A

On the humerus lateral to the spiral/radial groove

22
Q

What is the attachment point for the medial head of the triceps?

A

On the humerus medial to the spiral/radial groove
*deep to the other two heads of the triceps

23
Q

What is the attachment point for the distal end of the triceps?

A

The olecranon of the ulna (bony prominence)
-the heads of the triceps converge into a common tendon and anchor onto the bony process/olecranon
*bony lump you can feel on the back of the elbow

24
Q

What is the innervation of the triceps?

A

Radial nerve

25
Q

What actions are the triceps responsible for?

A

Extension of the elbow
