Peripheral Cutaneous Innvervation Flashcards
What is the difference between dermatomes and peripheral cutaneous nerve innervation?
Dermatomes are areas supplied by just one spinal nerve.
Peripheral cutaneous nerves tend to arise from several spinal nerves so tend to supply overlapping areas of dermatomes.
What spinal nerve roots supply the posterior part of the neck’s peripheral cutaneous innervation?
Posterior rami of C2-C8
Where is the nerve point of the neck?
Just above midpoint of posterior border of sternocleidomastoid
What sensory branch of the cervical plexus comes from the C2 nerve root and supplies peripheral cutaneous innervation behind the ear?
Lesser occipital
What sensory branch of the cervical plexus comes from the C2,C3 nerve roots and supplies peripheral cutaneous innervation of the bottom of and below the ear?
Great auricular nerve
What sensory branch of the cervical plexus comes from the C2,C3 nerve roots and supplies peripheral cutaneous innervation of the front of the neck?
Transverse cervical
What sensory branch of the cervical plexus comes from the C3,C4 nerve roots and supplies peripheral cutaneous innervation of the side of the neck?
Supraclavicular nerves
What peripheral cutaneous nerve is associated with diaphragmatic pain being felt in the shoulder?
Supraclavicular nerves
What nerves supply peripheral cutaneous innervation to the upper anterolateral trunk wall?
intercostal nerves
What nerve supplies peripheral cutaneous innervation of the level below the T12 and what spinal nerve root does it come from?
- subcostal nerve
- from anterior ramus of T12
What nerves supply peripheral cutaneous innervation of the lower anterolateral trunk wall and what spinal nerve root do they come from?
- iliohypogastric and ilioinguinal nerves
- bifurcation of anterior ramus of L1
What nerve supplies the badge patch and what nerve roots does it come from?
- axillary nerve
- C5, C6
What nerve supplies the inner elbow and outer lower arm and what nerve roots does it come from?
- cutaneous branch musculocutaneous nerve
- C5, C6, C7
What nerve supplies the anatomical snuffbox and back of the hand and what nerve roots does it come from?
- radial nerve
- anatomical snuffbox by cutaneous branches of radial nerve
- (C5), C6, C7, C8, (T1)
What nerve supplies the thumb, first and second fingers and what nerve roots does it come from?
- median nerve
- (C5), C6, C7, C8, T1
