Q

How does traumatic pericarditis cause cardiac tamponade?

A

Aorta and pericardial sac ruptured → blood filled pericardium → influx of fluid compresses the heart → heart can’t compensate leading to tamponade

Q

Hydropericardium

A

↑ amount of transparent serous fluid in the pericardial sac
Associated with generalized anasarca (edema), CHF, irritation to pericardium

Q

Cardiac tamponade

A

Acute compression of heart due to rapid accumulation of excessive fluid in the pericardial sac
Associated with acute hemopericardium

14
Q

Cardiac tamponade pathogenesis

A

Impaired atrial and ventricular filling → heart doesn’t have time to compensate → venous blood pools in systemic circulation

Q

Serous atrophy of fat

A

Malnourishment
Utilization of fat stores for energy → adipocyte atrophy and replacement of serous fluid (shiny/ gelatinous)

16
Q

Visceral gout

A

Deposition of urates on visceral organs
Visceral (kidneys affected too) or articular

17
Q

Visceral gout pathogenesis

A

Reduced renal function → ↓ urate excretion → hyperuricemia → urate deposition on visceral organs or parietal surfaces (uric acid)
