Performance Flashcards
What is the minimum altitude a turn can be made in IMC? (weather less than 1000/3)
No turns shall be commenced below 1,000’ AFE in IMC conditions. (Performance Handbook 2.1)
Is it mandatory that pilots fly a simple-special procedure in IMC? VMC?
Simple-Special procedures are mandatory in IMC until reaching 3000’ AFE if radar vectors are unavailable. They are also mandatory in VMC until reaching 1000’ AFE. (Performance Handbook 2.2)
Is it mandatory that pilots fly a complex-special procedure in IMC? VMC?
Complex-Special procedures are mandatory under IMC and VMC. (Performance Handbook 2.2)
When would you consider a runway to be wet for performance reasons?
A runway is considered wet when more than 25% of the runway surface area, within the length and width being used, is covered by any visible dampness or water 1/8in or less in depth. (Performance Handbook 2.3)
When is a runway considered to be contaminated?
A runway is considered contaminated when more than 25% of the runway surface area, within the reported length and width being used, is covered by more than 1/8in of standing water or its equivalent in slush, wet snow, dry snow, or any depth of ice or compacted snow. (Performance Handbook 2.3)
When are reduced thrust takeoffs prohibited?
Reduced thrust takeoffs are prohibited on contaminated runways, reported or forecasted wind shear, or when a special departure procedure specifies full thrust for takeoff. (SOPM 4-7.3)
Is a runway with patchy thin ice or snow considered contaminated?
No. When 25% or less of the surface, within the length and width being used, is covered in contaminants, the runway is not considered contaminated. (FOM TR 11-03)
Performance data is valid for what range of temperatures on the release?
The Takeoff Report is valid when the actual OAT is no less than POAT-10°C. The actual OAT cannot be higher than POAT. (Performance Handbook 2.7)
Performance data is valid for what range of QNH values?
The Takeoff Report is valid when the actual QNH is no less than 0.10” (3mb) below PQNH. A new Takeoff Report is never required if the actual QNH is higher than the PQNH. (Performance Handbook 2.7)
If your takeoff weight exceeds the weight listed under the “PTOW PLUS 1000” column, what would you do?
Contact dispatch for a new Takeoff Report.
Are we permitted to takeoff with a tailwind? If so, is your release performance data valid?
Yes, SkyWest ERJ aircraft have a 15kt maximum tailwind limitation. (SOPM 2-3.1) ACARS takeoff performance sections are based on calm winds. Unless specifically noted in the section title, use of this data is not allowed for a takeoff with a tailwind. (Performance Handbook 2.11)
If weather conditions require the pilot to program REF A/I to “ALL” in the MCDU, and the remarks section states “ENGINE ANTI-ICE ON” only, are you able to use performance data?
No
If the flex N1 value on the EICAS is below the calculated release value by more than 0.5%, what would you do?
Reduce the flex temperature, or if that is not possible, update the takeoff performance numbers with the current OAT either through ACARS or contacting dispatch. (SOPM 4-3.5)
During a single-engine missed approach, would you fly the published missed approach procedure or wait until 1,000 AFE to commence a turn?
Fly the missed approach procedure.
Where would you find LAHSO landing distance information?
Back of 10-9 chart.
