APU Flashcards
If you accidentally turn of the APU, what can you do to keep it running?
Move the selector to the ON position before the 1 minute cool down period is over.
How many minutes before push back can you start the APU?
10 minutes
If BATT 1 is deferred, what is required to start the APU?
APU will not start. BATT 1 has the brains of the APU
If takeoff performance requires ECS off, how should we set the APU
ON to pressurize the cabin for takeoff
Where does fuel come from for the APU is there is only DC power?
DC fuel pump in tank 2
Where does fuel for the APU come from is there is AC power and no engines running?
AC fuel pump
Where does fuel come from for the APU with engines running?
Ejector pump from tank 2
Where can you get electrical power to start the APU?
BATT 2
DC GPU
What happens if we press the APU emergency stop?
The fuel SOV is closed
Why do we move switch to ON before starting the APU?
This turns on and initialize FADEC
How do we know when the APU FADEC is ready?
There will be numbers on the EICAS
What is our shut down consideration for the APU?
1 minute cool down / 1 minute spool down
What do we need to consider if we are turning off the batters?
Ensure APU is completely shut down prior to turning batteries off (FADEC fault)
EICAS show OFF
What can the APU provide durning the 1 minute cool down?
Provide AC electrical power until shut down. Bleed valve closes.
What can we use the APU for?
Source of air and electrical power?
What is the max altitude that the APU can provide AC power?
33,000 feet
What is the max altitude for the APU to provide engine start?
21,000 feet
What is the max altitude for APU bleed air use?
15,000 feet
What is the max altitude to start the APU?
30,000 feet
Can the APU provide bleed air for anti-ice?
No
What will cause the APU to automatically shut down on the ground?
Overspeed Under speed FADEC critical fault APU fire APU EGT over temp APU high oil temp APU low oil pressure Sensor fail
What will cause the APU to automatically shut down in flight?
Overspeed
Under speed
FADEC critical fault
