- Induction training - New employees are introduced to the business when they begin the job
- On the job - Training takes place at the business. Usually carried out by experienced staff.
- Off the job - Employees train away from the company. Usually carried out by an expert

Work-shadowing - New employee observes experienced employee
Apprenticeship - Apprentice trains in the workplace for part of the week whilst training off the job
Coaching - Trainer trains trainee step by step, helping them along the way
Job rotation - Trainee learns tasks in several departments and can learn many skills

ADVANTAGES
* Specific → suits business’s needs
* Cheaper → nothing to pay for
* Work isn’t interrupted by staff attending courses outside the office
DISADVANTAGES
* Lower quality of training → not led by experts
* Employees may pick up bad habits from other workers
* Lower concentration → caused by work interruptions

* Time-consuming for experienced employees → may have to tour new employees

* Higher concentration→ no workplace distractions
* Networking opportunities
DISADVANTAGE
* Expensive → need to be paid for
* Lower productivity → Time is spent away from work
