Pectoral Region Muscles Flashcards
Pectoralis Major
Insertion
lateral lip of intertubercular groove of humerus
Pectoralis Major
origin
- clavicular head: anterior medial of clavicle
- sternocostal head: anterior surface of the sternum and costal cartilage of ribs 1-7
- aponeurosis of external obliques
Pectoralis Major
Innervation
medial and later pectoral nerves
- C5-C6 to the clavicle
- C6, C7, C8, C11 to the sternal head
Pectoralis minor
origin
anterior ribs 3-5
Pectoralis Major
Functions
- clavicular head: flexes from neutral to flexion
medial rotates
horizontally adducts at the GH joint - Sternocostal: obliquely adducts the arm to the opposite side
fixed insert: elevates thorax during forced inspiration
Pectoralis Minor
insertion
coracoid process of scapula
Pectoralis Minor
Innervation
medial pectoral nerve C8, T1
sometimes runs with lateral pectoral nerve as well
C5-C7
Pectoralis Minor
Functions
Protraction of scapula
(medial border of scapula slides antero-laterally away from the midline along the thracic cavity)
Fixed insert: elevates ribs during forced inspiration
Serratus Anterior
Origin
lateral aspect of ribs 1-9
Serratus Anterior
insertion
medial, ventral border of the scapula
Serratus Anterior
Innervation
long thoracic nerve
C5-C7
Serratus Anterior
Functions
MAJOR PROTRACTOR
works together with the upper and lower traps to produce upward rotation of the scapula
Subclavius
origin
1st rib junction of rib and costal cartilage
Subclavius
innervation
nerve to subclavius
C5-C6
Subclavius
insertion
groove for subclavius on inferior clavicle
Pectoral Region:
anchors the limb to the trunk
Subclavius
functions
provides support to the sternoclavicular joint
pulls clavicle medially
fixed insert: elevates first rib during forced inspiration
Pectoral girdle
clavicle and scapula
Superficial compartment
contains skin, superficial fascia, and breast
deep compartment
contains muscles
associated neurovascular structures
major blood supply
thoracoacromial artery
axilla is:
major pathway for the transmission of major nerves and vessels passing between the neck and arm
contents of axilla
axillary artery axillary vein nerves of the brachial plexus lymphatics and lymph nodes axillary breast tissue in females
upper bony margins of axilla
lateral border of first rib
posterior surface of the clavicle
superior border of scapula
clavipectoral triangle is:
depression between pectoralis major, deltoid, and clavicle
venous drainage is
runs superficial to deep
distal to proximal
3 things attach to coracoid process
- short bicep
- pec minor
- coracoidbrachialis
Pec Major blood supply
thoracoacromial artery
anterior wall of axilla
pec major
poster wall of axilla
lats
drains blood from the extermity
cephalic vein
cephalic vein empties into
the axillary vein
