Upper Respiratory Tract Infection
URTI
Infection (normally viral) of the upper part of respiratory tract including sinuses and throat
Nasal discharge/congestion, fever, watering eyes, sneezing, irritably
Pneumonia
Infection of lungs with inflammation and potential presence of fluid
Fever, increase work of breathing, cough
Pertussis (whooping cough)
Highly infectious respiratory disease. Known for violent coughing
Whooping cough, Nasal congestion, cyanosis at end of coughing episode, no fever
Epiglottis
Infection and inflammation of/around epiglottis
Drooling, fever, irritation, poor oral input, cyanosis/pallor
Croup
Viral infection causing swelling of larynx and trachea causing narrowing airway
Barking cough, inspiratory stridor, horse voice
Bronchiolitis
Viral infection of lower respiratory tract
Cough, tacyhypnoea, widespread crackles or wheeze
Asthma
Chronic inflammation disease of airways via reversible airway obstruction and bronchospasm
Wheeze,cough, short of breath increase work of breathing
Meningococcal
Petechial rash (pin prick red purple spots) can go to pirpuric rash (brusimg like)
Non blanching
Varicella (chicken pox)
Small blisters surrounded by irregularly shaped patches of inflamed skin
Measles
Flat red blotchy spots, normally begins behind ears and spreads
Not itchy
