amoxicillin use and dosage
treat mild community acquired pneumonia (CAP) >16yrs dose, 1g tds 5 days
suspected infective exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) >16yrs, dose, 500mg tds for 5 days
amoxicillin and clavulanic acid use and dosage
prophylaxis against infection following high risk mammal bites/ or in active infection of said bites
875mg/125mg BD for 5 days (before food)
Doxycycline use and dosage
mild community acquired pneumonia (CAP) >16yrs, dose 100mg BD 7 days
mild pneumonia in residents of nursing homes with penicillin allergy >16yrs, dose 100mg BD 7 days
skin infections following exposure to salt/brackish water (may need extended course) >16yrs, dose initial 200mg then 100mg BD 7 days
infective exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) >16yrs, dose initial 200mg then 100mg BD 7 days
trimethoprim use and dosage
first line for UTI (unless patient has history of resistant to trimethoprim UTI)
doses
female uncomplicated 300mg nocte for 3 days
female complicated/IDC 300mg nocte 10-14 days
male UTI 300mg nocte 7 days
cephalexin use and dosage
treat UTI when patient has history of trimethoprim resistance >16yrs dose BD 5 days
treatment of skin infections (cellulitis)/wound infections >16 yrs dose 500mg QID 5 days
