p.e Flashcards
Legal Basis
Section 19, Article XIV (14) of the 1987 Constitution of Republic of the Philippines
is a the integral part of the whole educational program designed to promote the optimum development of the individual physically, socially, emotionally, and mentally through total body movement in the performance of property selected physical activities.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
is to the human body what fine-tuning is to an engine. It enables us to perform up to our potential.
Physical fitness
activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities.
Regular physical activity
It is a key marker of health and fitness.
Cardio-Respiratory Endurance
is the maximum rate that oxygen can be used by the body during intense exercise.
VO2 max
is when lactic acid starts rapidly building up in the bloodstream during exercise, contributing to fatigue.
LACTATE THRESHOLD
is how quickly the heart rate decreases after a workout.
HEART RATE RECOVERY
Higher aerobic capacity lowers the risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure.
CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH
Better cardio-respiratory fitness ensures sufficient oxygen transport for proper bodily functions.
GENERAL HEALTH
There are several key components related to overall health and physical fitness. Four major categories aside from cardio-respiratory endurance are muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition, and flexibility
HEALTH RELATED
refers to the maximal force or tension that muscle or muscle group can exert in a single effort.
MUSCULAR STRENGTH
importance of muscular strength
-Allows for performance of everyday tasks like lifting groceries or yard work.
-Maintains functional independence as we age.
- Supports athletic performance for sports
- Helps prevent injuries to muscle and joints
- Contributes to healthy body composition through metabolism
It is defined as the ability of a muscle or muscle group to perform repeated contractions against a light-moderate load an extended period
MUSCULAR ENDURANCE
importance of muscular endurance
-Allows muscle to perform repetitive tasks without early fatigue
-Necessary for activities requiring sustained physical activity over time.
-Helps prevent overuse-type injuries
-Contributes to the ability to carry out daily activities requiring muscular efforts.
enables us to lift, carry, and complete force-requiring tasks by exerting maximal power from muscles.
MUSCULAR STRENGTH
allows sustained, repeated muscle exertions before fatigue through aerobic activity and higher rep training.
MUSCULAR ENDURANCE
compares lean mass to fat mass. Added muscle and less body fat support metabolism and reduces disease risks.
BODY COMPOSITION
around joints and in muscles maintains range of motion, aids, and lowers likelihood of injury.
FLEXIBILITY
refers to a person’s ability to transfer energy into force at a rapid peace also known as explosive body movement.
POWER
adequate power allows for completing physical tasks with more ease, force, and vigor.
IMPORTANCE OF POWER
a skill-related component of physical fitness relates to the time between one of your senses recognizing a stimulus and your body moving in response.
REACTION TIME
good reaction skills allow quick responses to daily situations that require fast reactions
IMPORTANCE OF REACTION TIME
refers to a person’s ability to maintain their equilibrium when moving or when they are in a stationary position.
BALANCE
Performing a v-sit on the beam or the floor
Landing after a rebound in basketball
Re-gaining balance after stepping in opposition when serving a ball.
BALANCE
sufficient balance enables stable standing, walking and smoothly performing other physical activities without wobbles or mishaps
IMPORTANCE OF BALANCE
refers to a person’s ability to perform complex movements due to the working together of the nervous system and the muscles of the body.
COORDINATION
Catching a ball in a lacrosse scoop while running
Dribbling a ball while moving
Hitting a pickleball while moving forward on the court
COORDINATION
coordination allows fluidity of motion and smooth function as we execute everyday physical tasks like driving vehicles, using tools and utensils, typing, getting dressed and brushing teeth.
IMPORTANCE OF COORDINATION
refers to a person’s ability to move fast. Speed combined with strength will provide power and force.
SPEED
Running a fast-break in basketball
Moving a racquet fast through the hitting zone to hit a ball harder
Running fast to catch a Frisbee during an ultimate Frisbee game
SPEED
Reasonable speed capacity aids keeping page when crossing busy roads, trying to catch transportation, or maneuvering through crowds and traffic.
IMPORTANCE OF SPEED
refers to a person’s ability to move their body quickly and easily.
AGILITY
Stepping aside quickly in the hallway to avoid running into someone else
Stopping, starting and changing directions quickly to avoid a defender
Stepping quickly on the court to return a serve or and opponents shot
Changing directions quickly to avoid stepping out of bounds.
AGILITY
Decent agility enables swiftly sidestepping collisions, changing directions on a dime to reach destinations on time.
IMPORTANCE OF AGILITY
is the range of motion in a joint or group of joints or the ability to move joints effectively through a complete range of motion
FLEXIBILITY
Sit and Reach
FLEXIBILITY TEST
the sit and reach test is a common measure of flexibility, and specifically measures the flexibility of the lower back and hamstring muscles
PURPOSE
is now widely used as a general test of flexibility.
WEELS AND DILLON
this test involves sitting on the floor with legs stretched out staight ahead.
PROCEDURE
Tape measure or sit and reach box.
EQUIPMENT
is how effeciently your heart, blood vessels, and lungs to supply oxygen rich blood to working muscles during physical activity
CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE
also known as stress testing, measures how effeciently your heart and lungs work to supply oxyen and energy to your body during physical activity.
CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE TESTING
a step test provides a submaximal measure of cardio-respiratory or endurance fitness.
PURPOSE
a step test provides a submaximal measure of cardio-respiratory or endurance fitness.
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
begin by demostrating the alternating stepping cadence to the subject.
PROCEDURE
